STEP of Greater Washington is an urban ministry that presents the Gospel of Jesus by mobilizing churches and networking with other agencies and institutions seeking to elevate the poor. MPC’s involvement with STEP includes tutoring, mentoring, assistance with summer camps for kids, short-term mission trips, and gift baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Rev. Jim Till, former Executive Director of STEP, returned to this position in January of 2006, and Grace DC member Susie Austin officially joined STEP staff after many years of serving in this ministry. STEP’s programs include PALS, Bible Club, and tutoring. PALS are mentors who adopt a ParkView Elementary class and their teacher. Activities include monthly outings, encouragement and support. Bible Club is a weekly after-school meeting to foster growth in the knowledge and daily presence of God. Tutoring takes place on Thursday evenings between October and May. STEP would like Home Fellowship Groups to volunteer on a regular basis to provide meals for its tutoring nights. Prayerfully consider serving the children of Washington DC through one of the venues mentioned above. Please pray for Jim Till’s transition and a fresh vision of ministry to the whole of ParkView.
