EVENTS THIS WEEKEND!

Glimpses of Grace Women’s Breakfast is this Saturday!
It’s not too late to join us for the next Glimpses of Grace Women’s Breakfast! We begin this Saturday, June 27, at 9am in the Fellowship Hall.  The guest speaker is Donna Rice Hughes, who will share her journey from brokenness to wholeness and purpose.  It took a national scandal to turn her faith around and direct her to her calling as an author, speaker, and advocate for protecting children and families from the dangers of pornography and sexual predators on the Internet. Donna is the President and Chairman of a non-profit organization, Enough is Enough. Click here to RSVP on our website by Friday, June 25.  For further information or if you have questions, please contact Sarah Hopson at (703)597-9768 or sjhopson@gmail.com.

Special Concert June 28 (this Sunday) at MPC
Chris Holloway was called “the Pavarotti of Sacred music” by the late Dr. D. James Kennedy. A classically trained tenor with an impressive list of opera credits, Chris has performed opposite such music stars such as Beverly Sills, Placido Domingo, Claudio Abaddo, Zubin Metha, and Jose’ Carreras, just to name a few. This operatic tenor has always sought to bring professionalism to the music of his ministry that exudes excellence while touching the very core of the heart. He will be performing a concert of patriotic and inspirational music at MPC on Sunday night June 28 at 7pm. Admission is free and a love offering will be received. He will also be singing in Sunday morning services that day.

Chris is committed to use his musical gift to minister God’s love. He has appeared with many ministers and ministries such as Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Dr. D. James Kennedy, YWAM, Dr. Bill Bright, The Coral Ridge Hour, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and Dr. Alan Keyes.

Chris has traveled all over the world from Seoul to Milan, from Tokyo to Tel-Aviv, from London to Johannesburg. For fifteen years Chris’ songs of praise and worship have echoed in the largest concert halls of the world as well as the smallest churches where he feels equally at home. Come enjoy an evening of great music celebrating our nation’s Christian heritage and the God who sustains us. For more information on Chris, go to www.chrisholloway.org.

ALERT!  Donut Shortage Ahead
If you’re one of the many MPC folk who enjoy the coffee and donuts in the Grand Foyer on Sunday mornings, be sure to thank the volunteers who have served there in honor of a particular MPC ministry or ministry partner.  There are currently no host groups scheduled to work the table.  Without ministries and volunteers stepping forward, the coffee and donut table will be empty.  If your MPC-supported ministry or adopted missionary might benefit from this awareness-raising tool, consider signing up to help host the table for a couple of Sundays this summer. If you’d like more information or are ready to sign up, contact Brooke at (703) 608-5018 or brookeswayze@gmail.com.

Considering Adoption?
If you’ve ever considered adoption as a way of expanding your family or reaching out to those in need, Bethany Christian Services, a leader in domestic and international adoption, is looking for loving Christian homes for children. A Domestic Information Meeting will be held on July 16 from 6:30-8:30pm.  The International Information Meeting will be held on August 17 from 6-8pm. Both meetings are free of charge and held at our Fairfax office. Please call (703)385-5440 to register or check out www.bethany.org for more information

Important Information from MPC’s Finance Office
June is the last month of MPC’s fiscal year.  All reimbursable expenses need to be submitted to the finance office, for expenses incurred in June (or earlier), no later than July 2.  Expenses submitted after July 2 will be paid from the new fiscal year budget, resulting in less funds available for the new ministry year.  Ministry leaders – please make sure all of your volunteers have submitted authorized expenses for reimbursement by the deadline. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Any questions, please contact Jean Johnson at jean@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0569.

Mom’s Day Out…
…is actively enrolling for it’s 8-week Summer Session for children ages 18 months – preschool.  This co-op has 3 separate but identical groups that meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9:30am – 12:30pm.  If you are in need of 3 hours to yourself weekly, please contact Paige Farrington-Himes at (703)790-2646 for  more information.

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) Registration
If you are a mother of preschoolers (ages newborn – kindergarten), you are warmly invited to join us for the 2009-2010 MOPS season!  Our theme for the coming year is “Together on Planet Mom” and we hope you will join us in celebrating and embracing the fun in the motherhood experience.  Care groups will be formed in August, so please register as soon as possible!  Registration forms and additional information are available at the Tower Entrance and on our MOPS webpage. For more info, contact Julie Bauer at jdbauer1@verizon.net or (703)752-2889.

Nursery Caregivers Needed for July 5
If you are planning to be in town for the holiday weekend, would you please consider serving in the MPC nursery on Sunday, July 5?  We are in need of caregivers during both services. Please contact Brytt at brytt@mcleanpres.org if you are willing to serve.

Performing Arts Camp Help Needed
It’s that time of year again!! McLean Presbyterian Church is once again hosting a performing arts camp during the week of August 3rd to August 7th. We are in need of someone from within the congregation to fulfill the following two services:
1.    We need a host family that would be willing to open their home to the three wonderful women that are overseeing the program for the duration of the week. Each woman will need a separate bed, and a home without animals is preferred.
2.     We will need someone to donate their vehicle to the three women running the camp for the week. We’ll make sure to fill up the gas tank at the end of the week.

If you are interested in helping with either or both of these needs, please contact Billy Robinson at billy@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0575 as soon as possible.

Summer Sunday School
Kingdom Kids is transitioning into summer beginning Sunday, June 21st, and this means we are in need of some extra help.  The Flagstones class (3-year-olds) and the Pebbles class (2-year-olds) need volunteers to help during both services.  If you are interested in serving, please contact Melanie Janetsky at melanie@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0576.

Wallace Presbyterian Church Re-Opens!
After six years in the making, Wallace Presbyterian Church is finally opening the doors on its new campus! Come and join us for our dedication on June 27 at 4pm and our opening worship on June 28 at 10:30am in our new building.  For more information, call us at (301)935-5900 or visit our website at www.wallacepca.org.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CYNTHIA HUTCHINSON!

Dear Career Women of MPC,

After mentoring career women for seven years in the Fellows Program of the C.S Lewis Institute, I, along with Rebecca Cotton, began a similar program at McLean Presbyterian three years ago.  In September we will begin our 4th  year for Year 1 Crosstrainers and our 3rd year of Crosstrainers Too, for those who have completed the first year.

If you are a career woman and a regular attendee or member of MPC, this group may be of interest to you. We hope you will consider joining with us for a substantive time of studying and growing deeper in your relationship with Christ.  We are opening the application process immediately and have a deadline date of June 30, 2009. Please contact Rebecca Cotton at cottondc1@yahoo.com to receive an application to be completed. The group time together will consist of teaching, discussion of a book, prayer, and fellowship.  We believe that discipleship of heart and mind is crucial to equip and encourage career women to be salt and light in the marketplace.

As we invite you to pray and consider joining us, we want to give you enough information about the group to make a careful decision about your schedule for the next year. If you participate, please realize that your commitment to meeting with the group consistently is extremely important because the meetings are only once a month.

*Required participation in a retreat October 9-11, 2009
*One book per month required reading
*Commitment to meet the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9AM.-12PM noon from September-May
*Meeting with a mentor once a month

We believe the group dynamics are well served by keeping the group number limited, with several mentors.  If you have questions, feel free to contact Rebecca or me. We plan to have an introductory meeting (date TBD), and our official Saturday meetings will begin on September 12, 2009.

As we trust the Lord to bring together the group of women, we look forward to what the Spirit will do in and through our group this next ministry year.

Many blessings in Christ,

Cynthia Hutchinson
