The Biblical story records God’s passion to be in community with humanity. He created us for the purpose of enjoying a true relationship with Him and with one another. Through Christ, both relationships are redeemed. At McLean Presbyterian Church (MPC), we believe that Home Fellowship Groups provide the best context for us to enjoy both relationships together.
A Home Fellowship Group is a community of approximately 8 to 16 people who meet in neighborhoods throughout Metro DC during the week. The primary purpose of a group is to experience the living, Triune God through fellowship, Bible study, prayer, and worship – all within the context of meaningful relationships with one another.
Home Fellowship Groups serve as the place of ‘front-line pastoral care’ where the church family can build one another up. It also provides numerous opportunities for group members to exercise their spiritual gifts. Furthermore, these groups serve as a key way to integrate newcomers to the life of MPC.
Most Home Fellowship Groups are composed of people from all seasons of life and all levels of Christian knowledge. We also offer groups for specific demographics (singles, couples, men or women). Members and regular attenders are welcome to join a Home Fellowship Group.
Currently, there are groups meeting throughout the Northern Virginia area. Check here for a complete listing. If there is a group or several groups that interest you, click on the leader’s name to send them an email! They will be happy to hear from you and would love to share more about their group.

Who can join a Home Fellowship Group?
All MPC members and regular attenders are welcome to join a Home Fellowship Group. While some groups are intended for specific demographics (singles, couples, men or women), most are composed of people from all seasons of life and all levels of Christian knowledge.
Can I belong to more than one HFG?
MPC encourages that each person or couple belong to one HFG at a time to allow the maximum opportunity to be ministered to and to invest in the lives of others in the group.
Where is the list of HFGs?
Follow the links on this webpage to see a full list of groups.
Do you have groups that meet in DC?
Not presently – although we are always interested in starting new groups. If you would like to begin a group in DC, please email James Forsyth.
How does a Home Fellowship Group differ from a Bible study?
We like to say that HFGs are “more than a Bible study” because the primary purpose of a group is to experience the living, Triune God, not just study the Bible. Of course, we do experience God through Bible study, but also through other “means of grace” including: fellowship, prayer, and worship – and all of this within the context of meaningful relationships with one another.
Can I “try out” a group or do I have to commit up front?
Certainly “try out” a group, if that’s what you feel comfortable doing. We recommend that you also communicate your intentions with the leader so he or she knows how to best help you assess if the group is right for you.
Do the HFGs provide childcare?
Some do but not all. Check with the leader for more information.
