If you’re one of the many MPC folk who enjoy the coffee and donuts in the Grand Foyer on Sunday mornings, be sure to thank the volunteers who have served there in honor of a particular MPC ministry or ministry partner. There are currently no host groups scheduled to work the table. Without ministries and volunteers stepping forward, the coffee and donut table will be empty. If your MPC-supported ministry or adopted missionary might benefit from this awareness-raising tool, consider signing up to help host the table for a couple of Sundays this summer. Both meetings are free of charge and held at our Fairfax office. Please call (703)385-5440 to register or check out www.bethany.org for more information.

2. We will need someone to donate their vehicle to the three women running the camp for the week. We’ll make sure to fill up the gas tank at the end of the week.
Admission is free and a love offering will be received. He will also be singing in Sunday morning services that day.

*******************************************************************************

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CYNTHIA HUTCHINSON!

Dear Career Women of MPC,

After mentoring career women for seven years in the Fellows Program of the C.S Lewis Institute, I, along with Rebecca Cotton, began a similar program at McLean Presbyterian three years ago. In September we will begin our 4th year for Year 1 Crosstrainers and our 3rd year of Crosstrainers Too, for those who have completed the first year.

If you are a career woman and a regular attendee or member of MPC, this group may be of interest to you. We hope you will consider joining with us for a substantive time of studying and growing deeper in your relationship with Christ. We are opening the application process immediately and have a deadline date of June 30, 2009. Please contact Rebecca Cotton at cottondc1@yahoo.com to receive an application to be completed. The group time together will consist of teaching, discussion of a book, prayer, and fellowship. We believe that discipleship of heart and mind is crucial to equip and encourage career women to be salt and light in the marketplace.

As we invite you to pray and consider joining us, we want to give you enough information about the group to make a careful decision about your schedule for the next year. If you participate, please realize that your commitment to meeting with the group consistently is extremely important because the meetings are only once a month.

*Required participation in a retreat October 9-11, 2009
*One book per month required reading
*Commitment to meet the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9AM.-12PM noon from September-May
*Meeting with a mentor once a month

We believe the group dynamics are well served by keeping the group number limited, with several mentors. If you have questions, feel free to contact Rebecca or me. We plan to have an introductory meeting (date TBD), and our official Saturday meetings will begin on September 12, 2009.

As we trust the Lord to bring together the group of women, we look forward to what the Spirit will do in and through our group this next ministry year.

Many blessings in Christ,

A Fun Opportunity to Serve!
The school year is coming to an end and that means Summer Sunday School is right around the corner! If you enjoy working with children or want to help serve a wonderful ministry, we need you! This operatic tenor has always sought to bring professionalism to the music of his ministry that exudes excellence while touching the very core of the heart.
Summer Sunday School
Kingdom Kids is transitioning into summer beginning Sunday, June 21st, and this means we are in need of some extra help. The Flagstones class (3-year-olds) and the Pebbles class (2-year-olds) need volunteers to help during both services. If you are interested in serving, please contact Melanie Janetsky at melanie@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0576.

VBS is Still Accepting Registrations
MPC will be running “Crocodile Dock” July 6-10 from 9:30am-12:30pm for kids age 4 through rising 3rd graders. Online registrations will be accepted through June 21. Space permitting, we will continue to accept hard copy and phone registrations through the end of June. Registration forms are located across from the Kingdom Kids Welcome Desk and can be mailed in or hand-delivered to the church office.

Want to support the Belize Mission Trip? (Need a babysitter?)
You can do both! Hire a highschooler who is going to Belize this summer, and all the money will go to the Belize trip. We all have experience babysitting. Contact Ellisa Blake (Potomac) at (301)251-1253, Rachel Derrick (Fairfax) at (703)273-7488, Addie Schafer (Ashburn) at (703)724-7670, Robin Thacker (Arlington) at (703)351-4436, Corinne Tucker (Bethesda) at (301)229-5379, or Rachel Wallis (Herndon) at (703)437-3451.

WARNING! Donut Shortage Ahead
If you’d like more information or are ready to sign up, contact Brooke at (703) 608-5018 or brookeswayze@gmail.com.

June is the last month of MPC’s fiscal year. All reimbursable expenses need to be submitted to the finance office, for expenses incurred in June (or earlier), no later than July 2. Expenses submitted after July 2 will be paid from the new fiscal year budget, resulting in less funds available for the new ministry year. Ministry leaders - please make sure all of your volunteers have submitted authorized expenses for reimbursement by the deadline. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Any questions, please contact Jean Johnson at jean@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0569.

********************************************************************

A Heartfelt Thank You…
… to the Holdsworth family for their very generous donation to MPC from the estate of Kristi Holdsworth. Kristi, who went to be with the Lord this past January, was a member of our church. Her large gift was designated specifically to support the Deacons’ Fund, Wilma’s Partners, and short term mission trips. We give thanks and praise to the Lord for continuing to use Kristi’s life to bless others.

A Fun Opportunity to Serve!
The school year is coming to an end and that means Summer Sunday School is right around the corner! If you enjoy working with children or want to help serve a wonderful ministry, we need you! We need teachers and assistants in all of our classes, from 4-year-olds to 5th grade, starting June 21st. We will work around your conflicts and vacation schedule. If you want to volunteer or to learn more, please contact Emily Rein at emily.m.rein@gmail.com or (205)253-0338.

All-Church Summer Retreat, August 21-23
Mark your calendars and make plans now to attend the McLean Presbyterian All-Church Summer Retreat! The retreat will be August 21-23 at the beautiful Shrine Mont Retreat Center in the Shenandoah Valley. Our speaker this year will be Mike Honeycutt, PCA pastor and professor at Covenant Seminary. All are welcome to come for an encouraging weekend getaway where we will worship, learn and fellowship together. The retreat is a wonderful opportunity to get to know others and to deepen your relationships at McLean Presbyterian Church. Registration brochures are available in the Tower Entrance. We hope to see you there! (For more information, contact Andy Laperriere, Mark Brooks, Jennifer Church or James Forsyth.)

Assistance Needed = SOS
Have you ever noticed the SOS (”505″) sign lit up at the front of the sanctuary and wondered what it means? It means that we need extra assistance in our Children’s Ministry classes that morning–typically either a nursery or preschool class. You can help! If you have a flexible Sunday morning worship schedule and can serve when you see the sign, please come down to the Children’s Ministry Resource Room (next to Room 1) to be placed in a classroom where extra hands are needed. Thanks!

Drama Overseer Needed
Do you enjoy working with 5th/6th graders and helping them serve others through simple drama presentations? Then you are the person we are looking for to help in our Summer Sunday School program! On Sunday between 9-9:30 and 10:45-11:15 you will help prepare the kids for a simple drama presentation of that week’s lesson. All props and supplies are provided. We know summer is vacation time and we will work around that. You will work with Emily Rein to help make the Summer Sunday School program here the best ever. Contact Carolyn Sinclair at (703)394-0568 or carolyn@mcleanpres.org to volunteer or if you have more questions.

Glimpses of Grace Women’s Breakfast
Ladies, the next Glimpses of Grace Women’s Breakfast is June 27 at 9am in the Fellowship Hall. The guest speaker is Donna Rice Hughes, who will share her journey from brokenness to wholeness and purpose. It took a national scandal to turn her faith around and direct her to her calling as an author, speaker, and advocate for protecting children and families from the dangers of pornography and sexual predators on the Internet. Donna is the President and Chairman of a non-profit organization, Enough is Enough. Click here to RSVP on our website by June 23. For further information or if you have questions, please contact Sarah Hopson at (703) 597-9768 or sjhopson@gmail.com.

You can help us by taking one of the supply “globes” from the tree and filling the need by this Sunday, June 14. Thank you for your prayers and support of Student Ministries’ mission to Belize!

A Fun Opportunity to Serve!
The school year is coming to an end, and that means Summer Sunday School is right around the corner!

Thanks!

Call for Nominations for the Board of Women
Nominations are now being accepted for MPC’s Board of Women. The Board was established by the Session in 2005 and functions to encourage women to live out Titus 2:3-5, to serve as a committee to address women’s concerns and to complement the ordained leadership of the church by serving as liaisons to the church leadership committees. The Board’s objectives are two-fold: serving women and engaging women in service. Nominees must be MPC members for at least one year. Training begins in the fall, with examination and confirmation by the Session in early 2010; Board members serve for up to two 3-year consecutive terms. You are encouraged to submit nominations using forms available in the Tower Entrance - the nominations period closes this Sunday, June 7.

The Student Ministries Sr. High missions team will be returning to Bethany Presbyterian Church in Belize July 12-19 to do VBS, construction, and outreach with Pastor Rafael Ku. We will also be ministering to the church by taking supplies that the preschool and church have requested and we need your help! Please visit our Belize Angel Tree ‘Palm Tree’ in the Tower Entrance. This tree has individually tagged supply needs that we hope to fill and take with us. You can help us by taking one of the supply “globes” from the tree and filling the need by Sunday, June 14, 2009. Thank you for your prayers and support of Student Ministries’ mission to Belize!

Want to support the Belize Mission Trip? (Need a babysitter?)

Last Call for VBS Donations!
Thank you to the many people who stopped by our table in the Tower Entrance to pick up a donation card. Please bring your donation to the table by June 7th.

MPC Organ: An Update, a Surprise, and a Challenge
The Update. Thanks be to the Lord and our donors, we have sufficient funds to fully cover the cost of the organ. With that milestone reached, on May 12, the Session authorized us to sign the contract with Walker Technical for our new organ. The Surprise. On May 18, we learned that it’s very likely that the organ could be built, delivered, and installed - not in the six to nine months we had been expecting - but by the end of August, just three months from now. We’re excited that we could have the new organ so soon. The Challenge. An installation several months sooner than we expected poses a challenge. We have some preparations that have to be done in the sanctuary before the organ can be installed. Those preparations will require a contract with Church Interiors, and we cannot sign that contract until we have funding to fully cover that work. The challenge is that we still need about $14 - 17,000. The Lord has brought us this far, and we continue to trust that He will take us all the way. Can you help us reach the “fully funded” mark? If you have any questions, please contact David Bading, Steve Martin, or Dick Osborne.

Missions Housing Opportunity
One of MPC’s ministry partners has been given the chance to find housing for a male student from an Arabic country. If you or your family could help out for some portion of July or August, please contact Vanessa at missions@mcleanpres.org or (703)394-0590.

RTS Washington 2009 Graduation
RTS Washington DC’s 6th Commencement will be held June 12, 2009 at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall at MPC. Our campus will celebrate eleven graduates, including our first MDiv graduate. Dr. Bob Cara, professor of New Testament at RTS-Charlotte and Chief Academic Officer for RTS, will speak at the graduation ceremony. Dr. Cara recently completed a commentary on 1 & 2 Thessalonians as part of the Evangelical Press Commentary Series. The book will be released in June 2009 and will be available through www.epbooks.org. Graduation ceremonies are open to the public. We would be delighted to see you there!

Special Concert June 28 at MPC
Chris Holloway was called “the Pavarotti of Sacred music” by the late Dr. D. James Kennedy. A classically trained tenor with an impressive list of opera credits, Chris has performed opposite such music stars such as Beverly Sills, Placido Domingo, Claudio Abaddo, Zubin Metha, and Jose’ Carreras, just to name a few. This operatic tenor has always sought to bring professionalism to the music of his ministry that exudes excellence while touching the very core of the heart. He will be performing a concert of patriotic and inspirational music at MPC on Sunday night June 28 at 7pm. Admission is free and a love offering will be received. He will also be singing in Sunday morning services that day.

Chris is committed to use his musical gift to minister God’s love. He has appeared with many ministers and ministries such as Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Dr. D. James Kennedy, YWAM, Dr. Bill Bright, The Coral Ridge Hour, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and Dr. Alan Keyes.

Chris has traveled all over the world from Seoul to Milan, from Tokyo to Tel-Aviv, from London to Johannesburg. For fifteen years Chris’ songs of praise and worship have echoed in the largest concert halls of the world as well as the smallest churches where he feels equally at home. Come enjoy an evening of great music celebrating our nation’s Christian heritage and the God who sustains us. For more information on Chris, go to www.chrisholloway.org.

The Most Important Thing You Can Do…
…for children at high risk: PRAY! Each year on the first Sunday in June, Oakseed Ministries invites Christians to pray for children at high risk and those who minister among them. This year’s Annual Day of Prayer (ADOP) is June 7th (this Sunday). You’re nearest ADOP gathering will be at 3:30pm at McLean Presbyterian Church in the McLean Room. Join us to pray for “Compassion and the Lost Childhood” the theme for 2009. This is a user friendly prayer meeting. For more information go to www.oakseed.org or call (703)876-9020.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CYNTHIA HUTCHINSON!

Dear Career Women of MPC,

After mentoring career women for seven years in the Fellows Program of the C.S Lewis Institute, I, along with Rebecca Cotton, began a similar program at McLean Presbyterian Church three years ago.

Cynthia Hutchinson
