Adults

Our Men’s ministry centers around meeting monthly to encourage, equip, and empower men to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our Women’s ministry seeks to join women of all ages in fellowship, to grow in grace and knowledge by studying God’s Word, to share the life-changing truth of the Gospel, and to serve Him out of His abundant blessings.

For young adults, married and single, who are in their 20′s to mid 30′s, we offer Harvest, and for single and ‘single again’ women we offer Karas.

Men's Ministry

Mission/What to Expect

The Men’s ministry – Brothers in Christ – seeks to give glory to God by developing disciples of Christ through training in day-to-day application of the Word of God and through service to the needs of others.

Our passion is to demonstrate Jesus Christ to our families, church, community and world by continually growing in His faith, love, wisdom, humility, power and oneness.

We do this by meeting regularly, holding one another accountable through discussion and prayer, studying the scriptures, welcoming newcomers, and facilitating mutual mentoring relationships. We are committed to God’s Word (truth), prayer, evangelism, service and grace-centered accountability.

Second Saturday Men’s Breakfast (FSMB)

From September to June, we meet on the second Saturday of every month from 8am – 9:30am in the McLean Room at MPC. We ask men to commit to a program of four monthly meetings, during which we will listen to lectures, discuss and pray together. We begin each series with a kick-off event and close each series with a social function. We would love to have you join us. Your RSVP is helpful but not required. Click here to email your RSVP to Fox Magee.

How to Join

To join the men’s ministry at MPC, or for more information, please contact Bill Janis at mpc@mcleanpres.org.

FAQs

1. What occurs at the men’s breakfasts?

Typically, we listen to a guest speaker for about 20 minutes and then gather in groups to discuss ideas raised in the discussion, and then pray together.

2. Do I have to RSVP to attend the breakfast?

We greatly appreciate your RSVP as it helps with our food planning and preparation. We fully understand however that schedules change and this might not be possible. You are always welcome to attend, regardless of an RSVP!

3. What are the ways I can get involved in the men’s ministry?

The best way to get involved is to come to the Breakfast and experience the fellowship first hand. We believe you will greatly benefit both from the time spent and from meeting other men in attendance. This will also help you see areas where you might best be able to get involved.

Women’s Ministry

Mission/What to Expect

Over the years, MPC has had several different approaches to involving women in the ministries and life of the church. Six years ago, a strategy committee was formed to re-evaluate the formal role of women’s ministry – ministry to women, and ministry of women to the Body of Christ and the world. A lay leadership ‘Board of Women’ was created and their mission is this – to encourage and support women in their pursuit of a deeper relationship with God so that they will be better equipped for life and ministry alongside their brothers and to strengthen and extend the Kingdom as expressed in the vision and mission of McLean Presbyterian Church.

Contact Info

All women are welcome to be a part of the women’s ministry at MPC. For more information, please contact Rebecca Cotton, Chair of the Board of Women, or Lynn Crafford, Vice Chair.

How to Join

If you are a woman, and a member or regular attender, you are already part of the women’s ministry at MPC! You can register for each event individually, as your schedule permits.

Our leadership is nominated by members of the congregation. Our next ‘class’ of the Board of Women will be nominated in the spring of 2012.

Events

Glimpses of Grace

We gather for breakfast on various Saturday mornings to provide you with the opportunity for intimate fellowship with other women as you come away from the normal routine of life. Each meeting will feature a local godly woman who will share of God’s grace working in her life. You will come away inspired and encouraged!

Bible Study Information

There is no more significant way to grow in grace than to study God’s Word in a small group context. Our hope is for you to grow and change in your daily life through our time together. We invite you to join us as we study God’s concern for His people and His hope for them and for us. Throughout the year we will have times of review and rejoicing. If you can’t commit to the whole year, you can come for part of the study and still fully participate. Childcare is provided.

Our Tuesday morning Bible study runs from September through May of each ministry year. For further information, contact Deb Perry or Chris Sherrill (through the church office).

Karas

KARAS is a group of single women of all ages who meet together to worship our great Triune God and to minister to each other through genuine Christian fellowship, Bible study and social activities including our annual fall retreat. Because it is our desire to reach out to others, KARAS is by no means restricted to members and regular attendees of McLean Presbyterian Church. Single women from other congregations and those without a church home are more than welcome. In addition to our regular activities, we support through prayer and email Lois Ooms in Africa, and Chris and Cassy Robinson, church planters in New England.

Contact Info

If this is the type of group that interests you we would love to have you join us. You may find out more by contacting Jeanne McChesney at mpc@mcleanpres.org.

How to Join

KARAS has no formal membership, but you can become a part of the group by joining us for our Thursday evening Bible study or any of our other activities. Simply contact Jeanne McChesney and she will be happy to answer any questions about the group and fill you in on its various activities.

Bible Study Information

Please join us on Thursday evenings at 7pm for our Bible study, led by Della Fisher, at the home of Jeanne McChesney. One of the most meaningful and supportive aspects of KARAS takes place in members’ lives throughout the week. As lives connect, those in KARAS communicate prayer and ministry needs, meet for meals, and assist and encourage one another in numerous practical and fun ways. This outworking of the Biblical concept of community makes our group times even more significant and worthwhile.

FAQs

Is the group restricted to single women who are widows, divorcees or retired?
By no means. Those who have never been married or may still be working outside the home (whatever their age) are more than welcome to participate.

Must one be a member or regular attender of MPC to be a part of KARAS?
Not at all. Members of other congregations and those who may be non-churched are more than welcome.

How often does the Bible study meet and where?
With the exception of various holiday times, the Bible study meets weekly at Jeanne McChesney’s home in McLean. You can double check we are meeting this week by contacting her at mpc@mcleanpres.org.

How do most people dress for the Thursday evening Bible study?
Comfortably casual.

Is everyone expected to comment during the Thursday evening Bible study?
No. You are welcome to participate in the discussion to the extent that you desire.

Capital Fellows

Mission/What to Expect

The Capital Fellows is a Christian Leadership program for recent college graduates. The program helps Fellows discern their calling in life and trains them to be wholly-devoted followers of Christ in both the church and the world.

Life changes after you leave school. Everyone knows that, but almost no one prepares you for it. How do you adjust to a workplace environment? How do you keep God as the focus of your life? How do you start the rest of your life? The Fellows experience will help you understand how to live an authentic life with God at the center of all you do – spiritual, family, career, and personal. It’s not only a bridge from college to employment, but it’s a year well spent.

The Capital Fellows program is a comprehensive Christian Leadership and discipleship program for a small group of Fellows, combining:

  • A three-day-per-week internship in a workplace environment within a business, government, or non-profit organization
  • One-on-one mentoring by a Christian (of the same gender) who is experienced in the marketplace and in ministry
  • Graduate level academic work on apologetics (the intellectual defense of the Christian faith) and cultural interaction through Reformed Theological Seminary
  • Retreats and conferences
  • Training in discipleship, evangelism, and prayer
  • Ministry within McLean Presbyterian Church, especially in youth and children’s ministries
  • Service to the community
  • Living with a host family from the church and being involved in Christian family life
