Music
Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him.
-from Psalm 33
Music is a natural part of the life of the believer and of the community of believers, as it can allow a deeper expression of faith in both times of joy and in times of sorrow. The Music Ministry of MPC has several purposes, as we see in the verses above. First, we seek to support, lead, and enhance the worship offered by God’s people in a variety of settings, including our gathering together on Sunday mornings, our Home Fellowship Groups and other corporate meetings, as well as the worship offered by our families, children, and each individual. We are instructed to play skillfully, and so we seek to continue to develop our musical talents and to offer our best efforts musically to the Lord. Finally, we seek not just to encourage believers in their faith and trust in the gospel but to encourage unbelievers to explore and discover the truth of who God is and the redemption he offers through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Our Music Ministries
Chancel Choir
This adult choir includes singers from all walks of life and ages. The group prepares weekly anthems, special music to lead in worship, and presents annual Christmas concerts and Christmas Eve offerings. Singers of high school age and older are welcome to join. (Childcare is not provided).
Kids for the King
This children’s choir, involving over 70 children from ages 4-12, is a high-quality training program for musical excellence and worship. Rehearsals are Sundays from 4-5:15pm. Kids for the King sings in worship monthly from September through April, presents a Christmas concert and a spring musical, and also sings for residents of a local retirement home.
Worship Team
Various musicians join their voices and instruments to help lead in worship each Lord’s Day. The team meets one evening for one hour the week prior to Sunday worship, and again at 8:20am that Sunday morning to rehearse for that day’s service. Musicians also contribute to the work of ESL, Harvest, MOPS, Home Fellowship Groups, Children’s Church, Student Ministries, the nursing home ministry, and special events.

FAQs
Who can join the Chancel Choir?
Singers that are of high school age and older are welcome to join the choir. Past choral experience is helpful, but not a requirement.
Do I need to be a professional singer or musician to join the Music Team?
While we want to encourage people to use their musical gifts to serve God and God’s people, we recognize that a high level of proficiency is necessary in order for the music in our worship services to enhance the ability of God’s people to worship.
How do you choose the music?
In choosing music, we consider both the integrity of the words and how the music supports and communicates the meaning of the words. We seek to incorporate a wide variety of musical styles.
