McLean Weekly for April 8

Pastor's Corner

From James...

When I’m thinking right and seeing clearly, I love the gospel. You couldn’t make it up: a God who loves his rebellious people so much that he goes on a wild and extravagant crusade to save them. I love it. And this Easter, we’re planning to celebrate!

If you made it to MPC last Sunday you’ll already have a copy of our Easter brochure. It details our Easter events: our services, special reception and exciting kids’ celebration. If you didn’t get one, there are plenty more available at the church. This week, I want to let you know about another way to invite your friends to join us. It’s an online option that’s a really good way to make that first connection. Click here and check it out.

Click here to see our classes for the spring session or pick up a brochure at the Information Center. The spring session began on April 3 and runs through June 26th.

Harvest

Join Harvest, the young adult ministry, this Sunday at 7pm where we'll worship together and James will review and wrap up the theme of the retreat, "Transformed by Christ." As usual, people will be heading out to Gordon Biersch to continue visiting and grab some food after it's all done. Have questions? Check out the website at www.dcharvest.org or email Janice.

GriefShare

A new session of GriefShare began last Sunday, April 3, at 11am in Room 18.  This is a 13-week Christ-centered class for those that have suffered the loss of a loved one.  A GriefShare group offers support and encouragement as well as knowledge on how to navigate through this time as healthy as possible. If you would like to join this session, please come!

Zeroes into Heroes 4/17 @ 5pm

Come enjoy a spectacular presentation as the Kids for the King children's choir brings to life on stage the story of Gideon, the reluctant warrior of ancient Israel, who defeated the mighty Midianites with only 300 men and the mightier hand of God. With great singing, dancing, costumes, lights, instruments and staging, be reminded that God can use the weak to do mighty things in his Kingdom. Showtime: Sunday, April 17, at 5pm in the sanctuary with a reception to follow.

Service Opportunities at MPC…

Spring Clean-up Around the Church, April 16

Please join the Deacons on April 16 for this year's spring clean-up around our church.  We will be planting flowers, spreading mulch, and trimming trees in order to get the Church property cleaned up for spring and the Easter season.  Please RSVP to Martin Etner or call (703)887-8707 by Wednesday April 13th.  Please bring your work gloves and yard equipment.

In Search of a Few “Heroes”

We’re looking for a few volunteers who can assist us during our reception following our annual musical on April 17. This is a wonderful way to serve our KFK families so that they can watch their children perform and host their guests, many of whom are from outside our church community. If you would like to help out, please contact Gina Dreistadt or call (703)273-8418. Thank you on behalf of the KFK families!

Children’s Ministry Needs Your Help on Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is a great day around here and this year it will be so more than ever! With the three services, Children’s Ministry is going to need additional help with staffing in the nurseries. Need Your Support for our Easter Sunday Reception

Easter Sunday is one of the most important days in the life of the church, and a day when many from outside our church worship with us. Our Easter Reception is an expression of our love and hospitality for all who come to MPC that day. We understand that many of you will be obligated in ways that prevent you from serving others that day, but for those who are able, would you please consider serving on Easter by helping with a portion of the reception? We are in great need, and need more helpers than the few who serve on the Hospitality Team to carry out this wonderful event. This year our Easter Reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30-11:30am. Here's where we need your help. We would greatly appreciate having all the volunteers we need by Monday, April 18. If you can help us with this event, please contact April Bailey and specify the time slot you are able to commit to.

Hosts for HS Students

If you plan to be in town over Memorial Day weekend, please consider hosting a pair of high school students from Birmingham. The Briarwood PCA youth choir will sing in our worship services on May 29 and we would like to house the singers Saturday night. Host families would meet the students at MPC at 7pm (after they have eaten) and return them to MPC Sunday morning. Please contact Linda Hooks or call (703)208-3533 if you can serve in this way.

Hosts Needed for Fellows Initiative National Conference Weekend

The Fellows Initiative National Conference brings fellows from programs across the country together to learn more of what it means to be followers of Jesus who are leaders in their generation. Would you be willing to host a few visiting fellows in your home over the weekend of April 29 – May 1? If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Kim Mascher.

Hospitality Leaders Needed

Is the Lord nudging you to consider serving as a co-leader of our Hospitality Team? After the upcoming Easter Reception our current leaders are stepping down and we will have no one to lead the following church-wide events: the Easter reception, the Congregational Dinner, the Hanging & Un-hanging of the Green, and the Christmas Concert reception. There is lots of volunteer help to support these events but we need leaders to make them happen. If the Lord has equipped you with skills necessary for this volunteer position, we would love to talk with you! Please email Diane Hutchinson or call her at (703)394-0572 for more information.

Usher for Sunday Worship Needed

We are short one usher to serve once a month during the 9:15am Sunday worship service.  If you are interested in joining an usher team and are a member of MPC, please email John Bouma or call (703) 425-6555 for more information.
